1. Tourist visa

 

T1

  • Tourist visa is issued to a visiting foreign national, who does not have the intention for employment. A foreign national visiting the Maldives on tourist visa will get 30 days from the date of entry. In order to extend Tourist Visa sponsorship declaration form should be submitted prior to arrival.
  • Foreignerwho overstays requires to pay a fine of Mrf 15000- 50000/-, or deportation by law.
  • Maximum days granted – 90 days
  • Tourist visa can be extended twice a year

 

  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Sponsorship Declaration form
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • If sponsored by a company the application form should be endorsed by the company,
  • Expatriate Health Insurance,
  • If sponsored by an individual, his/her Identity card copy,
  • Confirm Return Ticket to the home country (upon request)
  • Fee (Mrf 750/- per 3 months or part of 3 months)

 

E1

  • Granted to foreigners of countries where Maldivian government has a bilateral agreement with,
  • In order to extend Tourist Visa sponsorship declaration form should be submitted prior to arrival.
  • Maximum days granted – 90 days
  • Tourist visa can be extended twice a year
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Sponsorship Declaration form
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • If sponsored by a company the form should be endorsed by the company.
  • If sponsored by an individual, his/her Identity card copy
  • Expatriate Health Insurance
  • Fee not applicable

2. Diplomatic visa

D1

  • Diplomatic Visa is a permit to remain in the Maldives for a specific period of time granted to a foreign national, whom the Government of the Maldives considers to be entitled to diplomatic immunity pursuant to an International or Regional Convention that the Maldives is party to, or an International or Regional agreement that the Maldives is party to, or qualifies for such immunity pursuant to international rules.
  • Maximum days granted – 3 years
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid diplomatic passport
  • The application form should be endorsed from the relevant High Commission / Embassy & Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Fee exempted

• Diplomatic Family Visa

D11

  • Diplomatic Family Visa is granted to the immediate family of a diplomatic visa holder.
  • Maximum days granted – 3 years
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Original Valid diplomatic passport
  • The application form be endorsed by the relevant high commission / embassy & Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Fee exempted

 

• Non-Diplomatic Visa

D2

  • Non-Diplomatic Visa is granted to employees of foreign diplomatic missions, and offices of International and Regional Organizations based in the Maldives, who does not have a diplomatic immunity
  • Maximum days granted – 3 years
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • The application form be endorsed by the relevant High Commission / Embassy & Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Fee exempted

• Non-Diplomatic Family Visa

D21

  • Non-Diplomatic Family Visa is granted to the immediate family of the non-diplomatic visa holder.
  • Maximum days granted – 3 years
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • The application form should be endorsed by the relevant high commission / embassy & Ministry of Foreign Affairs
  • Fee not applicable

3. Student visa

S1

  • Student Visa is a permit to remain in the Maldives for a specific period of time, granted to a foreign student for the purpose of studying in the Maldives.
  • Maximum days granted – 1 year ( academic year)
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • Letter from enrolled school / registered College or a Faculty
  • Expatriate Health Insurance
  • Medical Report
  • Fee (Mrf 300/- per 3 months or part of 3 months)
  • Mrf 50/- for permit card

4. Business visa

 

  • Business visa is the permit to remain in the Maldives for a specific period of time, granted to a foreign national visiting the Maldives. This visa is issued for the purposes of doing a business or a professional work that has been permitted and approved by the concerned Maldivian Government authority.
  • Application form (IM30) for security screening of NGO’s Volunteers
  • Application form (IM32) for security screening of Media / Foreign Journalist
  • Application form ( form IM24)
  • Registration copy of the company / clubs / association
  • Passport Bio-data page copy
  • Qualification certificates or letter from foreign company (should mention the purpose, experience in the field, duration and place of stay)
  • Expatriate Health Insurance
  • Fee (Mrf 750/- per 3 months or part of 3 months)

5. Dependent visa

A11

  • Granted to the immediate family of foreign national employed in the Maldives holding a professional category visa
  • Maximum days granted – till the validity of the work visa

 

  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo (recent, white background)
  • Valid Passport
  • Copy of valid work visa card or employment approval
  • Marriage certificate copy (if for the first time, should bring the original marriage certificate)
  • If for children; birth certificate copy (for the first time, should bring the original birth certificate)
  • Expatriate Health Insurance
  • Medical Report
  • Fee (Mrf 750/- per 3 months or part of 3 months)
  • Mrf 50/- for permit card

6. Work Visa

 

  • A work visa is the permit to remain in the Maldives for the duration of an Employment Approval granted to a foreign national arriving to the Maldives for working.

  • Required additional documents mentioned in the form

7. Resident visa

B1

  • A resident visa is a permit to remain in the Maldives granted to a foreign national who is married to a Maldivian national consistent with the laws of the Maldives,
  • Maximum days granted – till the validity of the passport
  • Application form (form IM23)
  • Passport size photo(recent, white background)
  • Original Valid passport
  • For marriage: - The application form should be endorsed by Family Court.
  • Expatriate Health Insurance
  • Medical Report
  • Mrf 50/- for permit card

 

CR

  • Corporate Residence Visa is issued for Investors & investments meeting the following eligibility
  • Option1: Investors with USD 50 or more invested in Maldives
  • Option 2: Investors maintain a deposit of USD1 million at Maldivian bank for a period of not less than 2 years or who has invested in a financial security
  • Option 3: investors who have invested at least USD 1million in a real estate, approved by the government authorities.
  • An administrative processing fee of USD 2000(two thousand ) will be levied to process the application
  • Visa granted for five years.
  • Tourism related investors shall submit the application to Ministry of Tourism
  • Non- tourism related investments, all application should be lodged to Ministry of Economic Development

 

 

8. Special visa

Special visa issued on arrival is single entry

N1

  • Special Visa is a permit granted to a foreign national visiting the Maldives, or already present in the Maldives for a period of time as specified and notified by the Government for any of the following purposes;
  1. Humanitarian work
    • Old Age parents (above 65years) of professional foreign workers
    • Foreign parent of a Maldivian citizen
    • Old Age parents (above 65years) of Marriage visa holder
    • Volunteers for government projects
    • Human trafficking victims
  2. Where at the time of the expiry of the original visa, the foreign national had been subject to medical treatment, and for the purpose of continuing that medical treatment
  3. Where [the foreign national] has been involved in legal proceedings in order to seek a right, if it is imperative for that foreign national to remain in the Maldives until those legal proceedings are completed
  4. Where a Government authority feels that it is imperative for a foreign national whose visa has expired needs to remain in the Maldives
  5. Where Maldivians in connection with foreign nationals, or foreign nationals by themselves, organize social, economic and cultural programs, activities and events, for the purpose of participating in those programs, activities and events
  6. For sports activities if approved by sports association
